Online Experiment for Exploring Fermentation in Winemaking

winemaking setup

Background

Wine has been made and consumed by various people around the world since a few thousand years ago. While the chemistry underlying winemaking is not yet thoroughly understood, it is basically a fermentation process for producing alcohol (ethanol) from the grape sugar.

For understanding the fermentation process in winemaking, we have specifically designed and set up an online experiment to have long-time automatic collection of data for observing and analyzing  the changes in gas level of alcohol and pH level of the solution throughout a period of 2 weeks with 3 kinds of variables, namely (a) amount of fruit, (b) quantity of yeast and (c) presence/absence of extra sugar. Furthermore, you may use temperature as an alternative variable.
